Deloitte introduces public holiday options

Workers will be able to choose when they take public holiday leave and benefit from £500 budget for home working equipment

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — As Deloitte moves to embrace flexible working options even further, its staff can now benefit from the ability to choose when they want to take public holiday leave.

The move is an unprecedented one especially in an environment of intense debate on whether organisations will rush back to traditional forms of office work or lean into fully embracing remote, hybrid or otherwise more flexible models as permanent fixtures in the future of working.

Speaking to Deloitte’s decision, Managing Partner for People and Purpose Jackie Henry said, “Our new approach means that our people can choose to take public holiday leave on the dates that are most meaningful to them, in addition to their contractual and purchased holiday allowance.

“They are still entitled to take public holidays on the days they fall, or they can take these days off at a different time of the year if they prefer.”

Deloitte said some 20,000 of its employees in the UK stand to benefit from this new option, which stemmed from last year’s launch of Deloitte Works, its “flexible and inclusive approach to hybrid work.”

Henry noted, “A recent survey showed that the things our people value the most about our new work model are flexibility, trust and inclusion. Four out of five also said that they feel more productive in a hybrid work setting.

“We are committed to creating an inclusive environment — one where people feel like they belong and are better able to thrive, respecting different backgrounds and individual circumstances.”

More benefits for remote workers

In addition to the added flexibility for holidays, over 6,000 of Deloitte’s remote-working employees are also set to benefit from a £500 budget for equipment as the company increases its investment in home working equipment to more than £10 million.

Deloitte UK Managing Partner Stephen Griggs revealed, “As we adapt to hybrid working, we are extending the £500 budget for home office equipment to new and recent joiners to ensure all our people are supported with an effective home working setup.”

He also elaborated on plans to adjust physical offices to better accommodate hybrid working, noting, “We’re introducing new work settings and technology to make it easier for our people to work together and with clients.

“These spaces will be supported by additional high-quality audio and video, including 360-degree cameras to transform hybrid meetings and create a more inclusive way of working, regardless of location.”
