If you’re looking for a remote job in the UK, you have thousands of options available. But it may be just the right time to launch your career in tech.
Technology solutions company Cognizant has recently launched a Tech Apprenticeship Program that helps workers, and especially women, get their start in the industry.
The program offers a one-year paid position in a variety of tech roles, offering hands-on experience and invaluable networking opportunities to successful candidates.
While the program prefers candidates with a Bachelors degree and some skill with technology, it opens the door for a wide range of jobseekers to enter one of the most stable and lucrative industries in the world.
So, what’s this have to do with remote work?
The reason why this program is so exciting for remote workers and remote job seekers is because the vast majority of tech jobs around the world are offered as remote or at least hybrid positions.
It’s one of the industries with the largest percentage of remote job postings — and arguably the highest. As many as 72% or more of tech jobs were remote in 2022, according to a report by Velocity Global.
While that number has fluctuated and come down since pandemic-related emergency measures ended, it rebounded in the first few months of this year.
That means an apprenticeship program like this represents the perfect opportunity for educated workers looking to secure a job that will give them the work-life balance they seek — even if they’re not exactly a computer whizz.
It’s even more important for women
This program can have a special appeal for women, both because forward-thinking companies are looking to balance the gender gap in the industry and because multiple studies have found women value remote jobs far more than men do.
Research from Tech Nation found that nearly 80% of director roles in tech jobs are filled by men, highlighting the need for more women to diversify the industry. However, many women feel shut out or unwelcome in tech, due largely to the lack of female representation and reports of workplace discrimination against women.
Cognizant’s new apprenticeship program can help more women ease their way into tech, while getting paid at that.
And, it can give more women a way to secure remote roles where they can do their best work on their own terms.
It’s a fantastic opportunity to join an industry that’s almost always hiring, and where you’ll have a high chance of working from home and being paid very well.
