A new study by Remote has found workers want flexible work more than a 4-day workweek.

New study finds flexible work a top desire among workers with and without children at home 

LONDON, ENGLAND — When it comes to what British workers want the most, flexible working options outranks even the allure of a four-day workweek.

This is according to a new study undertaken by Remote, a global HR solutions company.

Remote undertook a study of five countries — the United Kingdom, United States, Netherlands, France and Germany — and found that flexible work ranked high straight across the board.

Remote Worker CEO Joseph Boll said this is just one more reason for British employers to embrace remote work and its benefits.

“Since the pandemic began, more and more studies have shown the same thing,” said Boll.

“On an almost global scale, employees and job seekers want remote work — or, at the very least, flexible work — as a priority.

“The signs are all there; it’s up to employers to take heed.”

Referencing the ongoing labour crisis facing the UK, Boll added, “This is no time to take the labour market lightly.

“Paying attention to what workers want and delivering is the way to keep your organisation afloat in these unprecedented times.”

Flexible work is the “most in-demand”

According to Remote’s data, the vast majority of workers ranked flexible work as more desirable than either a four-day workweek or getting to go home early on Fridays.

“We have uncovered the most in-demand employee benefits in 2022 by surveying 10,000 full-time employees across different genders, industries, job functions, countries and parental statuses,” the organisation summarised.

Most British workers surveyed by Remote ranked either part-time or full-time remote work as important to them.

It added, “Whether an employer’s primary aim is to attract top talent or retain it, flexible working hours, company-sponsored retirement plans or pensions and early finishes on Fridays are the top three perks to consider including in their benefits packages, based on our survey of 10,000 full-time employees in France, Germany, the Netherlands, the UK and the US.”

In the UK specifically, more workers leant towards part-time remote work rather than full-time.

Around 65 per cent of workers ranked part-time remote work as important, while around 47 per cent said the same for full-time remote work.

In contrast, just 14.75 per cent and 26.85 per cent respectively said part-time remote work and full-time remote work were not important considerations for them.

However, 74.2 per cent of all the workers surveyed said flexible work is important, while just 6.3 per cent disagreed.

Meanwhile, roughly 64 per cent of workers ranked a four-day workweek or finishing early on Fridays as important.
