TopCV survey finds women prefer remote work more than men
LONDON, ENGLAND — Not only is remote work high in demand among British workers, but it is actually their top choice.
This was confirmed by a recent study conducted by TopCV, a digital CV writing service.
The study surveyed 1,000 office workers in the UK, consisting of “white-collar” workers who normally work in an office environment, whether in-person, remotely or in a hybrid mix of the two.
Fifty-two per cent of British office workers surveyed chose remote work as the best job perk.
Additionally, it took into consideration the fact that several UK companies have launched a four-day workweek as of this past summer.
However, by and large, TopCV’s survey conclusively determined “the most popular job benefit among UK office workers in 2022 is the option to work from home, either in a hybrid or full-time capacity”.
TopCV asked British office workers “top three job benefits that matter most to them when evaluating a new job opportunity”.
The results found: “Working-from-home options — which include hybrid and full-time remote work — takes the lead, chosen by a majority (52 per cent) of those surveyed.
“A four-day working week (at full pay) comes in second, chosen by two in five (40 per cent) of respondents.”
TopCV highlighted that most respondents (60 per cent) did not choose a four-day workweek as their top preference, “despite already being rolled out to 3,300 employees, starting in June 2022”.
Remote work provides work-life balance
Additionally, in a further breakdown of the results, the survey found that more women wanted remote work options than men.
In fact, 59 per cent of women, as compared to just 42 per cent of men, ranked remote work as the job benefit that matters most to them.
Remote work was ranked more popular among women than men.
Such findings suggest “remote work is enabling more people to balance their parental duties with career obligations”, according to TopCV.
“TopCV’s findings suggest that work-life balance is a top priority for UK workers in the post-COVID era,” the organisation summarised.
“This is echoed by new data from Advanced Workplace Associates, which found that UK workers are currently working from the office only 1.5 days a week, on average.”
Careers Expert Amanda Augustine also noted, “In today's post-COVID, ‘employee’s market’, it’s clear that workers no longer just appreciate benefits that support work-life balance — they require them…
“Employees have now had a taste of more comfortably navigating their personal and home lives [and] they're unwilling to sacrifice this arrangement.
“Adding a new initiative to the mix, such as the four-day week, will undoubtedly create more appetite among UK workers for flexible arrangements in months to come.”
